How The T-BAR came about
After moving to Boulder from Miami four years earlier, T-BAR founder Debra Caplin was out one night with friends. One of the women peeked down the back of her jeans and exclaimed "you should own an underwear store!" after talking about how Debra bought underwear upon visits back to Miami. The next morning Debra woke up and thought "I really should own an underwear store", and began drafting the business plan. Eight months later The T-BAR opened its doors in downtown Boulder, right down the street from the bar where the idea started.
Why The T-BAR is different
The T-BAR is unlike any other lingerie store. Our products are flirty yet practical; sexy but not sleazy, and the selection definitely follows fashion trends. There are price points for any budget, and The T-BAR crosses the age barrier with selections for all women. The T-BAR, like the name implies, is as comfortable and casual as the Old West!

Our product mix
The T-BAR is an apparel business specializing in fashion forward underwear that's fun and different. The store sells mainly thongs, g-strings, boy shorts, panties and everything else underwear. While sixty percent of the store is devoted to underwear, The T-BAR also carries camisoles, soft bras, and an exclusive selection of traditional bras. Additionally there is loungewear and T-shirts that can be considered outerwear or part of today's lingerie wardrobe.
Swimwear was introduced in the spring of 2005, as was underwear for the whole family - men's and children's. Finally, about ten percent of the T-BAR is dedicated to bath and body products, as well as perfumes and candles.
The store concept
When Debra first moved to Boulder, she read extensively about the history and people of the area. She thought it was amazing how the women who settled this area were so strong and independent. The idea behind the store was to create a sort of tribute to that spirit. In that vein, everything plays off the idea of the Old West meets the New West. The store design incorporates recycled barn wood for the wall and floors; leather on the 20 foot bar-top, and tin ceiling tiles with antique light fixtures. An old western saddle is mounted near the bar for visiting cowpokes to relax. Debra wanted men to feel as at home here as women. The idea was to create a saloon style store using vintage materials in a modern way. The contemporary saloon style bar serves as a check-out, display, and wrapping stand.
Once Debra committed to the concept, her ideas and plans needed considerable refining, but ultimately evolved to the current plan. The store's name emanates from the suggestion of a friend; "T-BAR" is urban slang for thong. The name stuck - Debra loved all the images it evoked; it had an "old west" connotation and sounded like a name of a ranch. With a lot of hard work, everything just fell into place.
